Recovery, Remission

By Courtney Christison

Symptoms of the Idiot

Symptoms of the idiot:

Encourageable practices

Romantically fed

Overflowing with diluted meaning.

Confusion erupting

From the mouth of

An improperly enlarged

Ego.

Putrid repulsive

Excitement stemming

From an already decayed weed

And yet …

Unaffected.

Meaningless Review

And above all,

The night streams

A superficial film

Upon the day’s revelations,

Creating immunity

Of thought.

Engulfing the epiphanies

Of life

Into

Meaningless,

Torrential downpours

Of empty and hollow words.

The Soul Sings

What’s bigger than life?

Love challenges

Every chamber of the heart.

But not like death.

Love gives the heart a tune-

     A song to whistle.

While death stops

The song altogether

And every chamber transcends

Beyond this life

Showing the soul how to

Sing instead.
